John Hopkins Lawsuit: Will University Pay $6.6 million To Spring 2020 Students?

-

The district court judge approved payment to John Hopkins University students who attended the school during COVID-19. The University came into the limelight because of the lawsuit filed by the students during the spring semester of 2020.

The University denied the allegations but agreed to pay $6.6 million to settle or resolve this claim. Now we know all the details of the Johns Hopkins Lawsuit.

Overview of John Hopkins Lawsuit

Everyone talks about the John Hopkins lawsuit, in which a student named Elena Botts filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of all the students who paid tuition fees for undergraduate and graduate programs in the spring of 2020.

This lawsuit forced the defendant to bear the full financial responsibility for its response to the pandemic. Therefore, in the Johns Hopkins Lawsuit, we are talking about those students who did not get refunds. There are allegations of breach of contract, enrichment, and violation of the Maryland Consumer Protection Act.

John Hopkins should provide $10 million to students who enrolled in that semester and have yet to receive tuition refunds. Well, Elena Botts paid more than $73976 in tuition fees for the spring and fall semesters, along with $26,600 for the summer session, $14,490 for the summer, and $32,886 for the fall.

Respond By University

John Hopkins is a popular university in Baltimore, and it closed its campus during the spring 2020 semester to respond to this pandemic. The University said, “We are confident in the quality of education and services that we provide our students throughout the pandemic, including a variety of financial, academic, and other support services.” We do not agree with the merits of this lawsuit but are pleased to see it resolved.

This settlement benefits individuals who enrolled at Johns Hopkins University during the spring semester, and fees have not been refunded. Furthermore, students did not receive the full amount of their tuition fees for the spring 2020 semester because of COVID-19. Students should receive full refunds in compensation for their lack of access to campus.

According to the settlement, class members of this lawsuit can receive a proportional share of the fund based on how much they paid for tuition fees for the spring 2020 semester.

However, the exact payments can vary, and no payment estimates are available right now. The final hearing for Johns Hopkins Lawsuit settlement is scheduled for 17 April 2023. All the class members who are not excluded from this lawsuit will get the settlement benefits without taking any further action.
